New American Opera Previews
March 19, 2006 at 2:30 PM

Join us for highlights from The Theory of Everythingcomposed by John David Earnest, libretto by Nancy Rhodes, at Greenfield Hall, Manhattan School of Music, Broadway and 120th Street, in association with the National Opera Institute and Opera Index. Channel 13 and WQXR Radio�s Midge Woolsey will moderate a panel featuring the composers and creative teams of these new operas-in-progress. This new music drama explores ideas of science, spirituality, the nature of consciousness, and our search for meaning. The story revolves around an 8 year-old child, her documentary film-maker mother and her quantum physicist father.


Encompass Gala Honoring the composer Charles Strouse
at the National Arts Club, May 7, 2006 at 6:00 PM

Known throughout the world for his Broadway hit musical, Annie, Encompass will honor composer Charles Strouse for Lifetime Achievement. Join Encompass and a host of celebrities in celebrating one of Broadway�s favorite composers of Bye, Bye Birdie, Golden Boy, Rags, Applause, It�s a Bird�It�s a Plane�It�s Superman and Nick and Nora. And did you know Charles Strouse studied with Aaron Copland and wrote an opera, Nightingale,for Sarah Brightman? Encompass devotees will remember our production of Fantasies Take Flight, which included Charles� hilarious short opera, Satisfaction.




Vox and Friends
May 6 and 7, 2006 at the Skirball Center

Encompass will once again join the New York City Opera as part of Vox and Friends, a program of new operas-in-progress. Encompass will present scenes from The Theory of Everything at New York University�s Skirball Center. Many of you may remember our presentation two years ago with Vox at Symphony Space. Join us for this unique experience to hear a work in progress!

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has generously awarded Encompass New Opera Theatre a coveted Access to Artistic Excellence grant for The Theory of Everything.
